Hey Muses! Happy September!

I can't believe it's autumn, and boy did it make a rainy entrance. Summer didn't even say goodbye. I know this summer was very hot and humid, but those are my favorite and I'm sad to see the cooler weather.

I ended the summer with an anniversary trip to Europe and North Africa. Husband planned everything and it was such an amazing and restful time. So grateful and blessed to have had that time. Workloads are usually lighter in the summer, but these last few months have been so busy for both foundation work and museologie, which had me feeling a little overwhelmed and fatigued. One thing I tried to do this trip was *really* get in tune with how I feel when I am well rested, and with relatively little stress so I can more quickly identify what's off with me when I get back to busier days. Below are the things I need to do to have better days from start to finish:
  • Write daily to-do lists for work and museologie
  • Get in bed (like tucked in + phone away) by 10pm Sun-Thurs
  • Drink more water and tea
  • Make time to do leisure things
  • Hang out with friends but don't overdo it
It's been about ten days since my return to America, and I've been doing well. My body is feeling good, I'm getting rest, but most importantly, I'm getting things done in a timely fashion. That 10pm bedtime makes a WORLD of a difference!

A 2-week vacation is pretty unrealistic, especially in America, but what can you do to reset your mind, body and spirit without 2 weeks?
What are your self-triggers that you can identify when you need a break?
And lastly, how might you stick to a few self care / wellness goals and practices that will help you show up as your best self daily?

♥️xo,
Jordan

PS: A woman I met from Australia said they have 6 weeks of PTO/Holiday. And people are encouraged to take it. Can't relate. That sounds Amazing🌈

August Newsletter Feedback

Last month, I received a ton of feedback and had great conversations on sustainable fashion. Thanks everyone for the conversations, texts and emails. I totally didn't think about thrifting and second-hand shopping and so many of you mentioned it. Thrifting has a HUGE presence, but it's something I was not familiar with until I worked at my old job. Many of my coworkers thrifted, and we had an office clothing swap that was a big deal. Quite a few people mentioned that they shop second-hand and that's how they are engaging with sustainability.

A friend mentioned a barrier when we texted about thrifting and it's something I didn't consider, but of course this is a barrier when it mirrors regular/fast fashion spaces.
“…As someone who is plus sized, thrifting clothes often isn't in the cards for me so I try to thrift home goods stuff instead. It's all relative and nuanced!”

Another friend mentioned most of the items in her home are second-hand, and it's not that she can't afford new, she'd rather just do it this way and she likes it.

Lastly, check this quote that was sent my way from Hannah. “I feel like reusing and buying second hand is the best way to be sustainable! So I am teaching myself how to sew :) She did some sewing and has this awesome before and after…check it out below. 10/10

All this to say, my friends and readers are amazing. I love the support, conversations and feedback. Sustainability, wellness and, well, life looks different for all of us and we're doing the darn thing.

(Mini) Wellness Corner

Digital Wellness: My relationship with social is so frail and tense. It's a love/hate thing. More and more, I'm recalibrating how much time I spend on IG specifically, why and how it makes me feel. The less time I'm on IG, the better I feel. I'm not alone …
Financial Wellness: 5 ways to start a financial self-care routine. This was a short yet informative segment on NPR's Lifekit. It's self care but for your coinsss.
Social + Emotional Wellness: For all my friends dating, get out there, but take care of yourself. I've heard it's tough so don't burn yourself out looking for your boo.
Wellness Practice: If you write/journal, here are prompts for any emotion you may be feeling. Journaling doesn't have to be pages. It can be simple -- a word or sentence reflecting on how you feel in that moment.

Remember:
Wellness includes physical, occupational, social, financial, mental/emotional, spiritual and creative health. It's all about balance!
🏆
That's your wellness corner!

Have an amazing start to fall! I'll be back mid-month!
