MCSA SPONSORS 5 IN WILDERNESS FIRST AID

The MCSA Club sent five of our dedicated members to get Wilderness First Aid training. This involved a SETA-certified Level 1 First Aid training, as well as a comprehensive course on applying these skills to Wilderness scenarios—run by long-time respected friend to the MCSA, Neil Margetts from SA Outdoor Academy

This included sponsoring Bueti and Victor, our friends from Makajaneng Hiking Trails who are also fierce hands-on warriors in our Conservation subcommittee; Lourens, one of our dedicated Hiking meet leaders; Marno, who has been tirelessly introducing beginner Trad climbers to the Magaliesberg; and Hanky, the new head of PR & Marketing for the MCSA and future meet leader.

We also made some fun new friends over the course of the training, and our Chairman, Bennie, couldn't resist introducing them to our strange world of rock climbing.

But more importantly, we were equipped with incredibly essential skills of responding to medical emergencies, preserving and sustaining life in the great Wilderness. Learning CPR, saving drowning people, how to deal with injuries, snake bites, and how to manage many difficult scenarios…
“I now feel more prepared in taking our members out into the mountains, and to be a more responsible meet leader,” said one participant.

We are calling upon all members for contributions for the MCSA's journal for 2023!

The Journal of the MCSA is an annual publication that serves as a record of the mountaineering-related activities of the Club's members. Each year, there are articles and illustrations focusing on the environment, the flora and fauna encountered in remote parts of our country and elsewhere, on search and rescue, and on the history, geology and archaeology of mountain areas. With this extensive range of content, the Journal is also an interesting, informative, entertaining and inspiring work, reflecting the spirit of adventure of the mountaineers and explorers of South Africa.

Guidelines, journal stylesheet, photo template and more documents about the journal can be downloaded from our website below:
