I check in with myself and ask how I'm doing.

key habit #2 = checking in

What do you usually say when someone asks how you are?

I'm fine, thanks. Right?

That's the common refrain and an easy answer, even when it might
not be the truth. Sometimes it's just “too much” to get into. Sometimes it's just easier to keep things to yourself.

Sometimes you don't even really know how you're doing … because you haven't asked yourself in a while.

This is precisely why doing a midweek check-in and asking ourselves: how am I doing? is KEY HABIT #2 that we routinely share in our 365 space. It's one of the most important habits you can cultivate. Taking pause and taking notice of how you're doing. Listening to what your body might be telling you.

Honing in on what you might need.

It's not a habit (or better yet, SKILL) that many of us are accustomed to. On the contrary, it's likely you grew up with the expectation that you just need to keep pushing through. Keep working hard. You grew up with the mentality that you can't afford to slow down, because if you do, you'll fall behind, or worse yet, miss out.

We're all about learning how to become more mindful. Giving ourselves permission to simply check in and ask ourselves how we're doing is the first step.

Think of it as a little “assess and adjust” that we share every Wednesday. Log into our 365 space on Wednesdays and leave a comment to help yourself build this key habit.

All it takes is a few moments to consider how you're doing and what small shifts you might implement to keep yourself on track for the week. Both in terms of your work and your self-care. Where can you continue to prioritize your well-being, even in small ways, that will make a real difference?

So consider yourself formally invited to participate in KEY HABIT #2 by checking in midweek and sharing how things are going. How are you feeling? What might be important for you to focus on the rest of the week?

And here's the best part! When you log in and leave a comment, you inspire fellow TRIO/McNair students to do the same! We can help each other give ourselves permission to CHECK IN and keep ourselves on our own to do list.

It's a challenge and easy to get lost in the “sea of doing” each week. Sharing in this practice TOGETHER makes it possible. ✨

BONUS! Each time you leave a comment, you get entered into our fall monthly raffle to win a $50 gift card! 🍂

we want to know how you're doing.
