Happy Autumn to you! Our Fall is a little different this year. There are no pumpkin spice lattes and it's definitely not sweater weather. I celebrated the season by sweating profusely and hunting mosquitoes with a hand-held vacuum. One mosquito, locked in a bedroom with sleeping children can do a lot of damage!

Travel

Today marks 2 ½ months of full-time boat living/traveling, and it’s been a whirlwind.
I've managed every possible emotion and feel simultaneously exhausted and invigorated by so many new experiences. This adventure reminds me of my first semester of college and having a newborn,  at the same time.

We've sailed over 1900
 nautical miles
since my last newsletter
We've sailed across the Bay of Biscay, down the coast of Northern Spain and Portugal, across the Straight of Gibraltar to Morocco, back to Gibraltar, then a 55 hour (2 night) passage to Cartagena. After Cartagena we embarked on another overnight  passage to Formentera, spent one night on anchorage in Ibiza, and now we are in Mallorca.

Connection
In the past two months, we've have had the unexpected surprise of new friendships! We found an Australian boat family in Portugal and spent an amazing 4 days with them in Culatra.

There is no time to waste in these relationships. All formalities fly out the window. We became instant besties and experienced what I can only describe as a condensed summer camp, on Red Bull.
We also found an English boat family in Portimão, a German/American boat family in Ferragudo (with two kids under 5), and we hit the sailing-family-jackpot in Palma, Mallorca where we had 11 boat kids all together playing wild and free on the beach like a scene out of out of Peter Pan in Neverland!

I  miss our community of friends (who are like family) in California & Oregon so it's extra special to meet people that share the same values, lifestyle priorities, and views on raising children. These connections are one of the most precious parts of this experience.

We had our first boat guest!
Duane, one of Peter's best friends flew to Portugal and spent two weeks with us. He taught Peter to wing foil, helped with the kids, and inspired a few extra trips to shore for ice cream. We also had friends from Cambridge come see us in Lisbon and Mallorca.  The icing on the cake is that we also have our Swiss friends here, who drove here in their van, to show us all their favorite spots for rock climbing and deep water soloing! Friends are one of my favorite parts of life so the bucket feels extra full this month.
