We are getting closer and closer!
You are about to embark on the most incredible journey that will not only change your life but also the lives of others forever! How’s your mental checklist coming?
1. Have I been praying for God to go beyond my own expectations of this trip?
2. How many people have I invited to support my trip financially? (Some people can’t go on trips, but are definitely willing to help send someone else!)
3. Have I applied for my passport yet? If I already have a passport, is it valid for at least six months after my trip? ***NOTE - Passport wait times are exponentially longer right now than normal. If you haven't applied yet, you MUST expedite it. It will not arrive in time if you don't.
Two common questions that most people want to know at this point are
“How should I pack?” and “Do I need shots?”.
We have your answers!
TRAVEL VACCINATIONS
Neither Crossroads Missions nor the country of Guatemala require any specific shots. Ultimately, it's up to you on whether you'd like to get any shots before you go or not. A helpful resource is
CDC’s Global Website that gives you real-time-updates on travelers shot recommendations.
WHAT TO PACK
Below are a few starters to think through as you think about packing (you will also receive a packing list in your Departure Guide).
1. Pack Smart
You should always try to keep the climate and the culture of a country in mind when you are visiting and deciding what to bring and what not to bring. It will be in the 80's during the day and in the 60's during the evenings.
2. Pack Modestly
In general, do not wear anything that is too shocking or revealing. When in doubt, it's always best to err on the side of modesty (girls, your shorts should be at least fingertip length & no spaghetti strap or strapless shirts). You will spend a couple days on a construction site. On these days, everyone will need to wear long pants and closed toe shoes. Most Guatemalans don't wear shorts during everyday activities, so definitely pack work pants and casual pants.
3. Pack Light
You will only want to bring what you can carry by yourself. Please leave behind anything that you don’t have to have, especially fancy jewelry or unneeded electronics. You should plan to bring one checked bag (less than 50 lbs) and one personal item (like a backpack or purse).
Have a great week!
