Hello First name / beautiful warrior

I have had a beautiful week with the launch of the KDPM Equity Institute. We have been exploring new concepts, terms and learning from the leading experts in the equity space.

This week, I was honoured to be invited as a keynote speaker at the Foundation for Black Communities and the Future of Good. I had the honour to speak to Black leaders & audience about dreaming bigger into their cause and their cultural impact.

The keynote was centered around a central framework that we use in the KDPM Equity Institute is the 3 C's Approach to coaching. We employ CURIOSITY, COMPASSION & COURAGE as our guiding pillars of self leadership.

Change starts with the self, and organizations need to provide the support to individuals to learn and cultivate an environment that they can grow together in a way that creates a more equitable culture.

We were able to discuss self leadership and purpose from the place of cultural joy, cultural currency and tapping into ancestral currency and knowledge systems.

You can view my full takeaways in the video below.

We dove into the concept of our compassion currency, and how to approach and break down the white racial frame together and it's importance for us to be aware of what we are unconsciously upholding.

Through self leadership, and how we can use a ‘help me fix my crown’ approach and share our leadership brilliance with each other and the the rest of the world, and uphold each other as Black leaders in community.

One way to achieve this is for all racialized people to find our courage language, or heart-lead language that is aligned with your own energy.

Find the ancestral language - this can be a song, scent, or anything tied to your memory and emotions and energy.  For me, to say ‘kouaj’ in my native french creole feels different and powerful than saying ‘courage’ in english.  There is so much that we embody from our ancestors, and I invite you to find your ancestral language.

So many Black leaders are doing the thankless jobs and the extra work that is created by the colonial systems of oppression, and it's vital that we take this time to create our own narrative that is in alignment with our own cultural journey.

Earlier this year, I wrote an article on my Black identity and belonging in the workplace. Battle To Belong: Blackness, Culture and Identity: What I Learned On My Journey To Belonging.

I invite you to ask yourself what I do every year:
"What does Restorative Reclamation look like as a practice as I acknowledge cultural erasure and simultaneously build on my knowledge of Ancestral Knowledge Systems, cultural practices. How can I build on Cultural Equity?

As I create space to remember, how can we collectively increase emotional capacity for joy work, unity and psychological safety for Black women (when I say Black women, I also includes all people of African descent and other historically marginalized groups who benefit from this work) inside and outside the workplace/the journey ahead?”
