Good news
So happy for sweater weather and hygge and hot tea in my reusable cup. How about you? As always, if you know of a positive sustainability story that I've missed, just reply to this email or message me on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn. I'd love to know about it!

By design
The UK tackles textile waste in a new roadmap, and in the U.S. the secondhand market is expected to reach $325 billion by 2031 — with 82% of consumers having shopped preloved this year. Plus, fall's here and with it all the roundups on sustainable denim trends but you know what's even more sustainable? Any style of denim, bought secondhand.

Climate critical
Thrilled to see the climate win in Montana - and to know that similar lawsuits are pending in four other states including Juliana v. United States in Oregon, where the judge recent ruled that the case will go to trial — eight years after it was first filed. Meanwhile, Congress calls for greenhouse gas emissions disclosures for public companies — a critical move for climate. (Click through to see if your representative is on the list — and if not, send a message to ask them why.)

Plus, incentivizing farmers means the difference between setting food supply chain carbon reduction targets and achieving them, new study shows. Dump mineral sand on beaches for carbon sequestration: Could a successful solution possibly be this simple? The connection between plastic and climate change could not be more clear. If anyone you know has doubts, this report is a good place to start. And Biden created a new national monument in Arizona, conserving one million acres of land and protecting areas significant to Indigenous people (which they were stolen from in the first place).
Let's do this!

Please please please take 10 seconds to contact your senator and representative with one simple ask: Cosponsor the Break Free From Plastic Act. One form. 10 seconds. Thank you!

And… years ago, I worked with Patagonia — among other stakeholders — on legislation that would mandate washing machines include microfiber filters (just like dryers do). Looks like Samsung now leads on technological solutions with a new after-market filter that captures 98% of fibers and will soon be introduced in the EU. While we wait for implementation in, please remember that washing by hand or in cold/gentle significantly reduces microfiber shedding and gets clothes just as clean.

And finally: It's got nothing to do with sustainability, but this quote from a story on miniature horses as service animals made me laugh: “While bringing one on a plane now is harder, miniature horses are still perfect for the job." Also, here's the accompanying photo. You're welcome.
