For this week’s
#CreateWithCatCoq challenge, we’re taking it back to a classic - floral repeat patterns! 🌺
Now I know what you may be thinking “Cat, florals are so basic! I want more of a challenge!” Soooooo, I want to throw in a fun twist this week.
I want to challenge you to create a floral pattern from start to finish in less than an hour.
I know that this might seem hard, but I think you’ll be surprised at what you can create within this time constraint. Plus, some of the simplest patterns and illustrations I’ve created have become top sellers. You really never know what will take off!
There are a couple of reasons I chose florals for this week’s challenge…
- Florals are an evergreen trend. This means that they’ll always be in high demand in surface design.
- Depending on the complexity of the pattern, florals can be pretty easy to whip up! I love complex patterns, but sometimes simple florals end up being the best sellers! I know that a lot of artists feel like they don’t have time to create or don’t have time to grow their portfolios, but I want to challenge you to see just how much you can accomplish in a short amount of time!
The simplest way to create your pattern quickly will probably be to use Procreate, but it’s not required! Use whatever tools you feel most comfortable with. If you do want to use Procreate,
here’s a quick tutorial for how to create a seamless pattern in the iPad app!
