FIRST YOUTH MEET:
The first meet for the MCSA Youth was a hike and conservation meet at Dome Pools in Magaliesburg on 17 September. For some, this was a new experience; hiking and swimming in natural pools, while learning a little more about conservation created opportunity for learning and fun!
We took a walk up from the new Dome Pools parking up to the pools, crossing over streams and marvelling at the new shoots pushing through the recently burnt terrain. After chatting up at the MCSA camping site, we spent a couple of hours down in the pools swimming, clearing crofton, and pushing ourself beyond our perceived limits. Two young members challenged themselves in jumping into the cold waters below.
There were many flora growth of crofton, an extremely invasive plant species, which we had removed. With bags of flower heads ready to be disposed of, and rooted plants left to dry out, we left the Dome Pools cleaner and clearer.
Keep an eye out for more MCSA Youth events coming up, including some more conservation and skills development.
See you there!
