This week's interview:
Narrator
SFN:
What gave you the idea to add narrating audiobooks to your busy life and career?
SB:
I was working a full time operations job with a somewhat steady side career in commercial and cartoon VO and one of the studios offered me the chance to audition for audiobooks. After the first few projects I never looked back.
SFN:
What's your pre-recording ritual?
SB:
An obnoxious amount of work tending to my busted sinuses (embarrassing but true!) besides that it depends on the book, usually some combo of listening to a relevant playlist while previewing the chapters for the day, warming up an accent if needed and getting my producer inbox to a quiet place so I can focus.
SFN:
Audiobook listeners love bloopers! Do you have a favorite blooper you’ve saved or author pickup you’ve gotten during the recording process that has stuck with you?
SB:
I'm dyslexic and have ADHD and so my retakes are always the strangest flip-flop substitutes of words, one this morning was "I grabbed his laying c*ck while hardening on the bed"....
SFN:
What's your favorite part of the process? Prep? Recording dialogue? Pressing Save?
SB:
I love a good dialogue banter scene at a climax of a book when I've prepped, spent hours with the characters and I'm just IN the world and can whip back and forth between the characters.
SFN:
What do you love to do on your days off?
SB:
Summer: Pool party days /Fall: Hiking in NY / Winter: Tabletop Roleplaying games / Spring: Putzing in my garden
SFN:
Please share the name of another narrator or an author that you'd love to shine a light on:
SB:
Rose Dioro is the best! She is a fabulous and thoughtful narrator (and co-host of the Rosemoor Roundtable with me). For an author I have the most love for Elizabeth O'Roark who I've been lucky enough to work with on multiple projects.
(If you missed it, check out our interview with Rose Dioro here!)
And be sure to check out Samantha's work in this week's featured new release, Undone by Amy Knupp!
