Hello First name / Friends,

This week we wanted to explore how to prepare for SAD season in Pittsburgh! We don't know about you, but we are already starting to notice the shorter days and dark mornings, which can put anyone's mind and body into a crappy spot - add in the possibility of a bad winter and BOOM it's a recipe for a SAD disaster!

Still, there are absolutely things we can do to set ourselves up for success, read below for SAD guidance and dare we say, inspiration!

We are so excited that you are here and as always if you are looking for more support outside of this newsletter, please don't hesitate to reach out to us and schedule an appointment so we can help tailor a more personalized support program for you!

Let's start with the obvious!
01
Vitamin D! And before you groan, here us out. This is one of the most well researched vitamin deficiencies and supplements. It works and it's not malarky! Sun is best but not always possible in this region so start taking your vitamin D supplement now! Build it up and be consistent with it. On sunny days stick your face by a window if it's too cold for 10-15 minutes or get outside if you can!

Look Ahead!
02
Start to set up things now that you can look forward to! Fill up your calendar with get togethers, trips to the bookstore and coffee shops, concerts/shows, take a new class, try to do something once every two weeks that you can look forward to. And if you have it in the budget, plan a trip to the south or west sometime in end of January to mid-February for a real boost!
Embrace Cozy
03
Sometimes when we fight something so hard it almost makes it worse! Remember that embracing the slower colder days may turn out to be a positive. Learn to make new hot drinks, get comfy throw blankets, slow down, read or audiobook/podcast, light candles, use the firepit in winter, enjoy the fact that life expects a little less of us during the winter!
KEEP MOVING!!!!
04
This is a non-negotiable! Full stop. The physical activity involved in moving can boost endorphins and improve mood. Additionally, the change of scenery and new environment can provide a fresh start, reducing feelings of sadness or depression. And lest we forget, exposure to natural daylight during the winter months can help regulate circadian rhythms and alleviate symptoms!
