Hi First name / love,

How is this eclipse season treating you? It's certainly been a rocky one. My Libra-moon, Libra-rising spouse spent most of the weekend in bed. And I found myself on the couch reading through my library queue between naps (and going to see The Eras tour movie).

Over the past week, I've been thinking a lot about not being on social media during a global crisis. And I've heard from everyone I love who's still on the apps that each scroll is a stressful, dysregulating experience.

I remember that well from being on Instagram in my final years. The pressure to post. The urge to center myself. The need to have a unique take anytime something was happening in the world.

Leaving social media has largely freed me of that. It doesn't mean I'm not paying attention or processing events or finding ways to support. It just means that I'm doing that in conversation with the people I love and the sources I trust. And without the voices of thousands of people I don't know swirling around my head.

However you're connecting or disconnecting during these times, I hope you're doing what's right for you and your community. The only resource I'll share is a conversation I had for Fifty Feminist States in 2019. You can listen to that here.

If you're a small business owner, artist or creative who's also questioning your relationship to social media, I'd love to invite you to join The Interweb, the new affordable membership that I've created alongside Off the Grid podcast.

No matter how dark the times, I believe that the world needs our art, our work, our poems, our practices, our offerings. And I believe that social media is becoming more and more hostile toward our creations finding the people who need them.

The Interweb isn't a community space where we'll come together to process everything happening (or not happening) on social media. But it is a resource for learning to step back from social media & establish ourselves elsewhere, and it includes seasonal events where we can feel less alone in our journeys away from the apps.

While so much is in flux, I do know that I'm committed to helping people build successful, sustainable businesses that don't rely on social media platforms. And The Interweb is how I'm doing that for years to come.

As I sign off today, I actually want to say, Welcome! If you've joined this list since I last wrote, I'm so glad you're here! I hope you enjoyed your first letter. And if you're a long time subscriber, thank you for being here. ♡

You can listen to these letters by subscribing to my Emails From Amelia podcast at this link. It's also linked at the top of every email.

I write more frequently to my Off the Grid followers and Softer Sounds fans, but
I consider this humble list to be my personal one. I tend to share 10-12 letters here a year. If you'd like to adjust your subscription or join one of my other lists, you can do so anytime by scrolling down and clicking “Manage Preferences.”

Ok, thank you again for reading this, First name / dear friend. I hope to see you in The Interweb or another space in the upcoming months. Big hugs and deep breaths until then. ♡
xoxo, Amelia
