My son and I had this past weekend to ourselves. We made tons of grilled cheese fried up in butter and watched our favorite show (Madame Secretary) and a movie together. Don't you love that get-cozy time of year? Warm days, chilly nights. My feet search in the early morning for soft slippers, and I've added an extra blanket to my bed.
In that spirit, this week's newsletter is a round-up of inspiring warm-ish things.
Deeply moving. Katelyn Dixon's vulnerability and gentle encouragement to write as a means to find herself after a failed marriage: The Healing Gift of Writing //
Meaningful connections with people greatly affect quality and length of a person's life (not surprising). Find out what else matters while globe-trotting. Watch: Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones (available on Netflix). //
Arguably a non-cozy topic, but seasonally appropriate: death, the subject of author Christiana Peterson's new podcast with her husband, a pastor: Til Death Do Us Part. Poignant and funny, I enjoy their invitation to memento mori (remember your death). //
Poetry helps me pray through the war in the Middle East: "Jerusalem" by Naomi Shihab Nye (an American poet born in Palestine) and “The Place Where We Are Right” by Yehuda Amichai, Israeli poet. //
Why shouldn't you trust trees? They may seem shady. Some Dad jokes. //
I make my grilled cheese with sourdough like this.
Did you catch last week's guest blog post?

"Someone is pleading on your behalf for healing and wholeness.
…they inspire me to keep coming to God with my fumbling prayers and my early morning yawns when I’m wrestling with writing prayers."
Finally, the important question. How do YOU make grilled cheese?
as a friend said to me this morning, “make today great.”
LOVE,
Christina
