Hi, First name / friend. I'm writing this newsletter with an adorable beagle named Bogey sleeping beneath my feet. My husband and I are taking care of a coworker's dog for the weekend. It's been seven years since our beloved dog, Daisy, died, so it's nice to have a pooch in the house again for a few days.
My husband, Jon, with Bogey at a family birthday party last night
Do you have a pet who hangs out with you while you proofread or edit? I'd love to hear about it! Feel free to reply to this email and let me know (and attach a photo if you'd like).
We had several interesting, informative discussions in The Trellis, our supportive community for proofreaders and editors:
In the Productivity Tools channel, we talked about the benefits of having plants in our office space.
In the Seeds of Encouragement channel, I shared the story of the former student I saw this week and what turned into a lengthy conversation (even though I had blocked off that time for proofreading work).
In the Good Catch channel, I shared a photo of the cartoon that hangs on my office wall. It's one of my favorite catches from my proofreading business, a reminder for boys to wear a “collard” shirt for picture day. 😂
Many of the transcripts I proofread are from construction-related lawsuits, so I've seen the word mil many times. A mil is a unit of length equal to 1/1000 inch (about .025 millimeter) and is often used to measure thickness.
