COMMUNITY: Outdoor SKILLS PROGRAMME

The Community portfolio team developed a comprehensive six-session outdoor skills program with the primary goal of imparting fundamental outdoor skills to all communities within the JHB section territory. 
 
The inaugural cohort comprised participants from Kids Haven Children's Home and Majakaneng village
Our program's core objectives were as follows: 
 
1. Cultivate Inclusion and Diversity in the outdoors. 
 
2. Foster environmental stewardship
 
3. Develop essential life skills
 
4. Build self-confidence and leadership capabilities. 
 
5. Facilitate the establishment of enduring relationships. 
 
6. Provide safe and accessible outdoor experiences for all.

Upon the completion of these sessions, we are pleased to announce that four participants were awarded vouchers for Wilderness First Aid courses, all of which they have successfully completed. Additionally, each of them has been granted a one-year membership to the Mountain Club of South Africa (MCSA).

Join the MCSA for an exhilarating presentation by the renowned Pierre Carter and Jeremy Holdcroft. They will be sharing a bird's eye view of the Baltoro and surrounding peaks, PLUS an attempt to fly K2 and reach 8000m and beyond! Not to be missed.

We are calling upon all members for contributions for the MCSA's journal for 2023!
 
The Journal of the MCSA is an annual publication that serves as a record of the mountaineering-related activities of the Club's members. Each year, there are articles and illustrations focusing on the environment, the flora and fauna encountered in remote parts of our country and elsewhere, on search and rescue, and on the history, geology and archaeology of mountain areas. With this extensive range of content, the Journal is also an interesting, informative, entertaining and inspiring work, reflecting the spirit of adventure of the mountaineers and explorers of South Africa.
