REGISTRATION:
When registering your child for Mary Poppins here, there are multiple options for registering your child.
  1. First, determine your student’s weekly availability.  Would Monday or Tuesday nights work best for your family? If you have a preference, choose the Blue Cast for Mondays and the Red Cast for Tuesdays. If either night works well for your family, please select the Either Cast option. This gives the directors more flexibility to cast your child in the best role available to them. ***Even if you select the Either Cast option, we will keep siblings together unless otherwise requested.
  2. Secondly, once you have chosen the right cast for your students, choose the option that aligns with their grade level.  We have a limited number of slots for 2nd-3rd graders, so please stay true to the grade they are currently in.
Things required for participation:
  1. Tuition- $350 per student. We have need-based scholarships available upon request. You can find the application link here and on our website.
  2. A commitment to volunteer at least once during the process and
  3. The purchase of modesty garments and theatrical footwear for their students. We will send details on all these things once the process gets rolling!
AUDITIONS/CASTING:
  1. Auditions:
    1. Nov. 30th, Dec. 1st, and Dec. 2nd
    2. Held at North Highlands Bible Church
    3. 10-Minute Time Slots (You will receive the link to sign up for a slot in your registration confirmation email.)
    4. Song Choice:  Your student needs to prepare 30-60 seconds of a song!
      1. If your student is having a hard time memorizing or choosing a song to sing, things like “Jesus loves Me” or the National Anthem are perfectly acceptable choices. Sending your students into the audition with a song they feel confident and comfortable singing is always going to benefit them way more than trying to impress us with a song that they are struggling to remember.
      2. They can sing with or without a karaoke track.
    5. Monologue Choice: Your students needs to memorize a 30-60 second monologue (speech).
      1. If your student needs assistance choosing a monologue, reach out and we can send you a link to some options that we feel would be good choices for this show! Encourage them to make big choices and have fun with it!
  2. Callbacks:
    1. December 9th, 9 am-5 pm
    2. Held at North Highlands Bible Church
    3. Please note that not everyone will be called back this go around, but keep this day clear in case we need to see more from your student.
  3. Casting: This show will be double cast, which means there is double the opportunity for your students. EVERY SINGLE ROLE will be double cast, including the ensemble roles, and each cast will rehearse separately, making their own choices. It's like we are producing two shows this semester; they just both happen to be Mary Poppins.
  4. Setting Expectations for Younger Students: 2nd-3rd graders should expect non-speaking, ensemble roles.  Ensemble roles are a great way for a younger student to jump into a full-scale show, without the pressure of being called to every rehearsal. Ensemble roles are so fun, but we know our younger students have big dreams! If this casting will be a disappointment for your student(s), please consider registering them for the masterclass instead of or in addition to Mary Poppins. Every student in our masterclasses gets a chance to shine centerstage.
SHOW DETAILS:  Bright Lights Theatre is in a period of transition as we work to accommodate the immense increase in students we get to serve. Part of that transition will hopefully happen in the middle of Mary Poppins rehearsals as we hope to find and move into our own rehearsal space.
