First of all please forgive me for being an absent breeder this past week! These puppies are cute..cute..cute right now, and this is when I love to post those adorable videos. I have a puppy from my previous litter that I kept back and placed in a guardian home. That puppy was diagnosed with parvo last Friday.  And let me tell you his guardian is my friend and fellow nurse, she was not taking this puppy out in public or to dog parks. She had taken him to the vet a few days prior for one of his series of parvo vaccines, and we both suspect that he picked it up there. We have spent the week crying, praying and cleaning. Good news, 5 days in the emergency vet hospital and he is back home and doing wonderful. He hasn't been to my house since he went home, so I wasn't concerned initially, but then got to thinking (ok hopefully just paranoid) that she is only about 20 minutes from my house, and if its down the road at her house it could easily hitch a ride to my house… I have been a hot mess, so I have spent probably a good 10 hours over the last 3 days disinfecting every square inch of my house. So know when you come visit for either puppy picks or pickup that I will require you to shower in Clorox first. Just kidding, but I am on high alert so there will be protocols in place to ensure my home stays parvo free! I also promise to get a cute video this weekend to make up for ghosting social media :)

Ok now on to the important stuff. These puppies are going to be going home before you know it, and I’m so excited for every one of you and your families. Below I will go over a few things again related to puppy pick day, going home, and also some recommendations for items you may need for your puppy. We are planning to see the vet this Thursday, and then doing temperament testing the following day on Friday. I will send results, videos and explanations of the evals as soon as we have those ready, most likely sometime Friday afternoon. Everyone should have an opportunity to review the evals Friday, and then we will continue to puppy picks Saturday morning via in person or FaceTime calls (or Zoom)….yay!

We will do puppy picks this Saturday October 21st.  Please let me know if you will be visiting in person or prefer to pick virtually. Also if your time doesn't work, please let me know this as well and I will try to change up the schedule to accommodate.

Tentative schedule- (Eastern time)
10am - Kelsey family
10:30am- Curtis family
11am - Lawson family
11:30am - Rapp family
12:00pm - Karakatsanis family

As a reminder they can go home October 28th, and of course I am flexible if that day is not good for you. If you need help with transport, please let me know now.

These guys are doing great and are growing like weeds. We started crate training this past week, and they are catching on wonderfully!

Immunizations-
Puppies will see my vet next Thursday for their wellness exam and also first immunizations. I am assuming everyone is healthy, as I have not noticed anything out of the ordinary, but I will report back asap if the vet reports otherwise. My vet recommends that puppies receive their second set of immunizations about 3 weeks after their first set, so this will be approximately November 9th. Try not to have your puppy out in public places until this time as they may not have enough immunity to fight off certain viruses. My past week has been a perfect example of this.

Balance-
If paying with cash, balances will be due at pickup, or if staying past go home date, balance is due on 10/28. If you plan to pay electronically, please plan to pay at least one week in advance in order to give your payment time to clear. I accept Zelle, ApplePay and Venmo (person to person only) and GoodDog. If you are using GoodDog to pay I can walk you through how to avoid some of the hidden fees they like to charge. The balance again is $2,200. When paying electronically most people normally do this on puppy pick day. Please reach out to me if you plan on using one of these payment methods.
Venmo is @doodlingallday (person to person only)
Zelle and ApplePay are 828-413-0524 (Christina)
If using GoodDog I can send you the link

Microchips-
Your pups are going home microchipped, please make it a priority to register their chip in your name ASAP!

Pet Insurance-
Trupanion offers 30 days of free insurance for your puppy. You don't need to provide a credit card upfront, just go online or call within 24 hours of taking your puppy home to qualify. In order to qualify you must sign up either the day before, the day of, or the immediate day after pickup. I will send a reminder of this later, but I just wanted to put it on your radar in the meantime. (THIS WILL COVER PARVO TREATMENT. THERE HAVE BEEN ACTIVE CASES IN OUR AREA, PLEASE GET THE INSURANCE, OR ANOTHER INSURANCE OF YOUR CHOICE)

Food-
Your puppy has been weaned to TLC All Life Stages Dog Food. The recommended daily feeding amount is approx 1.5 cups daily. I have been dividing this up into 3 meals daily.  Here’s the link to purchase if you haven’t done so already.

Training-

One of the most important things you can do for yourself and your puppy is early training. The sooner the better, we all know that habits are hard to break so don’t even let bad habits start. I have had a few families send me videos of all kinds of things they taught their pups using the Baxter & Bella program, and its just unreal. I highly recommend this program to anyone bringing home a new pup. You can use my special code DOODLINGALLDAY for a 25% discount. Here is a link to their website

They have a 23 year recall free record and human grade ingredients.  Click here:www.nuvet.com/806800  OR Call 800-474-7400, reference #806800  (They also carry natural ear cleaner, shampoos and spot remover for potty training) They offer Auto-Ship which breaks down to about $16 a month.

Bed-
We like Wash’nZip:  www.washnzippetbed.com  Easy to clean and hard to destroy!  Get the Puppy Proofer too. If you use code DOODLING you can get 15% off. I really like it because you can literally just throw it in the washer and dryer.

Crates-
Investing in a good crate before your puppy arrives home will be a lifesaver to your sanity. If they cry in their crate I would try to ignore the behavior, it will only reinforce the negative behavior if you get them out. A 36-42 inch crate should be big enough, but I do recommend buying one with a divider for potty training purposes. Most of my puppies do very well in a crate when they go to their new homes, I give them lots of crate time to prepare them for your homes, but there is 1 puppy in every litter that just isn't having it…if that's your puppy don't cave, they are just testing you.

Grooming-

Try to get into the habit of brushing them often. They shouldn’t mat until their adult coat comes in, but this will get you & your pup into the routine. I am obsessed with the brush I am posting below, but it’s pretty pricey and you really won’t need it right now. Put this brush in the back of your head, and when the adult coat starts coming in, order this brush, it is hands down the best brush for removing mats. For now you can purchase a cheap slicker brush. (I also have a doodle grooming guide that is posted on our Doodling All Day Dog Owners FB group page)

Teething-

No joke their baby teeth are like razors, and they are going to try to chew on you, and it is going to hurt. There is a really good video on Baxter & Bella showing you how to nip this in the bud. In the meantime, redirect them. I like bully sticks because they are natural and long lasting. Rawhides are NOT recommended because they can cause obstructions if swallowed in large pieces.

Again, I am very excited for next week, puppy pick day is always such an exciting day! I will send out my address and pictures of my home in the next few days to help you get to the right home. My driveway is confusing for most people, so I find the visual to help with finding me.

If you have any other questions please feel free to ask! See you all soon and thank you for trusting me with your new family members 😁
