We have been supporting the city centre ban on e-bikes and scooters, due to be implemented on 20th November. Riders who do not dismount their e-bike or scooter as they reach the pedestrianised areas of the city centre could soon face a fine or even prosecution.

 

Interactions between cyclists and pedestrians in shared spaces are increasing and it’s a high priority for the BID to support any measures that can be put into place to reduce risk of injury. We work to make the city centre accessible to all visitors and it has been highlighted that e-bike incidents heavily contribute to the reasons why some of Coventry’s residents feel reluctant to visit the city centre to shop.

 

Security Manager, Sian said, ‘Businesses are reporting to us that these modes of transport are being used as getaway vehicles by shoplifters. This makes it impossible to catch the offenders, so hopefully the ban will make it less easy for them to flee our stores with stolen goods.’

 

In order for us to collate information on shoplifting trends, it’s important that we continue to meet together to discuss these issues. Please join us at our next Crime Reduction Meeting which will be held at the BID office on 28th November- 12 and 2pm.

The good Samaritan app is looking for volunteers to sign up. Volunteer Responders is a national, flexible volunteering programme supporting health and care in England.

The scheme is built on top of the GoodSAM platform and links volunteers to local needs. This allows volunteers to offer help at a time which suits them.
