Nov Prompt 1 Check-In
GRATITUDE
How has working with gratitude been and what kind of visuals has it conjured up for you? The image I keep seeing is half circle shapes--kind of like rays expanding out--in gold. I have been sitting with that and will take time this upcoming week to translate that vision onto my sketchbook page. I'm not sure if it'll end up looking like what I'm seeing in my mind but I'm excited to start working and see what happens!

If you missed the Gratitude Lettering Workshop, you can find the replay here and the template PDF and supply list here. I hope you'll try it out and put your own twist on it! Below are some of the pieces from the workshop :) I also love the idea of turning this into a communal project--leave out a blank template during your Friendsgiving / Thanksgiving gatherings and have everyone add something to it throughout the day or evening. Snap a pic of the finished piece to send to everyone so they can see what they helped to create and how it turned out!

The image above is another piece from one of my favorite makers and small businesses,

EB started her gratitude piece by creating a beautifully textured background--I love the effect of the salt! I can't wait to see how this comes together and what the finished piece looks like.

Bao and her kiddos Eli (age 9 - top) and Brooklyn (age 6 - bottom left) each created a piece! I love that they used color and it's fun to read what are grateful for!

Cat also joined in on the workshop and I love all the drawings and doodles she added to hers!

A lovely version by Reena--I love the energy and perspective she adds into every one of her projects!

And above is my finished potato stamping piece for “unearth”! It was my first time using gouache instead of acrylic paint and I like the way it layers and how this piece turned out. It's also such an easy way to try block printing without having to buy rubber blocks and tools--all you need is a potato, knife, and paints--I think it's an easy project to do when traveling because of how little you need. (And if you don't have a potato you can try another vegetable!)

One of the things I am very grateful for is having a talented and thoughtful group of artists and makers to create with throughout the past 11 months! Thank you for all the inspiration, your creativity, your presence and energy, and for being my accountability buddy! :) I wanted to leave you with this post, An Open Thank You Note To Artists. Thank you again and I'll talk to you soon!

With gratitude,
