Hi, First name / friend. Isn't it fun to watch new leaves form on a plant? Every time my marble queen pothos sprouts a new leaf, I love to watch the leaf forming alongside the current vine. It's like the buddy system!
Eventually, the new leaf separates from the vine and grows on its own, but in its early stages, it needs support to grow.
This reminds me of our wonderful proofreading and editing community that provides so much support and encouragement. Just like the new leaf leaning on the vine for support, we, too, find strength in each other's expertise.
Let's continue to foster this sense of community. I'm so thankful for all of you! 🥰
In the Productivity Tools channel in The Trellis community, we shared the results of the goals we had set for October and shared our plans for November. Sharing our goals with other people makes us more accountable, doesn't it?
In the Proofreader Mindset channel in The Trellis community, I shared a photo I took at Reynolda Gardens in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Bulbs have been planted and are “sleeping” until spring. We discussed how as proofreaders and editors, we sometimes feel dormant but can look forward to a period of growth coming soon.
Did you know that there's an entry in the Merriam-Webster dictionary for the idiom “lend weight/credence/credibility”? It means to make something seem true or correct, and the word “to” often comes at the end of the phrase.
This Week's Featured Proofreader or Editor:
Anne Morgan Edits
The Proofreader Greenhouse asked:
What type of content do you proofread or edit? I edit mysteries and romance; also nonfiction history and some academic theses, dissertations, and articles.
Did you complete a training course for proofreaders, or are you self-taught? I started editing mainly self-taught, and I edited for friends and at work. When I decided I wanted to do this professionally, I took the Edit Republic courses, and now I'm taking several EFA courses as extras. I like to keep learning new things, and I'm trying to boost my confidence on what I already know.
What is your favorite thing about your proofreading or editing business? Working with authors in a developmental edit. I love asking questions about their characters, helping them to get deeper into their character's motivations behind different actions. Or if something isn't working with the plot, I love helping them brainstorm possible ideas.
What causes you the most frustration in your business? Trying to find new clients and keep social media interesting and appealing.
