The key has been to build multiple streams of income.
In the beginning, that looked like selling on print-on-demand sites back before they were as saturated as they are today. Then, I started to pursue art licensing where I sell my art for companies to use on their products and get passive royalty income.
Then, I was approached about teaching my first class. I was so nervous about it, but I’m so glad I said yes. Teaching quickly became another income stream in my business– plus, it unlocked a deep personal passion.
Now, I have multiple different income streams and other ways that I automate things in my business (for example, writing this email ahead of time and scheduling it so that it gets sent to you even though I’m at the top of one of the largest peaks in the world!).
Needless to say, I’m a big fan of doing something once and letting it fuel my business for months or years to come. Whether that’s filming a class, writing a blog post, or creating an illustration, the art industry has countless opportunities for optimization so that you can live the life you dream of while working on your own terms.
For me, that means I have more time to focus on my passions and hobbies, like embarking on hiking trips all over the world and getting to spend more time outdoors doing what I love.
