Friends,

You can't function?

I can't tell you to stop watching the news or the recent updates.

Whenever I open social media, there is urgent news, an important video, and a perspective I must take. But this time it's really urgent. It's not other-people's-urgency-is-not-yours kind of urgency that I warned you about before, which will keep you distracted and not working on your goals. This time, sharing is important. Reading is important. Interacting is important, and creating is so important, more important than ever. It's so important because entire families are wiped from the face of the earth every day, and when you distance yourself from it, you desensitize yourself to it, and you normalize it.

You need to keep feeling and speaking until change takes place.

Today, I also want you to notice how it feels after you spend hours just consuming without sharing, commenting, and adding your voice. You can't stay online for two hours and feel good after, not before, and especially not after October 2023.

But I just said it's urgent, right? So, what to do?

You need to space it out.

Space out the times you go online during the day because your family needs you to function, your work needs you to deliver, you are not on vacation or even a quarantine, the messed-up world is going on like it's nothing, but it's everything. You need to show up HERE and THERE. You have a responsibility towards your brothers and sisters AND to your work and clients, too.

Space it out to serve your daily life and our collective compass now, Palestine.

In case you missed these posts on Instagram…

Here is your weekly dose of The Sunday Spark ⚡️ a newsletter listing 3 sparks that I thought were worth starting your week with*:

1. 🌳You can do small digital boycott actions such as changing your search engine from Google to Ecosia, the search engine that plants trees. Do it for the environment and for Palestine.

2. 💪 I love the below list that my friend Deema Al-Alami shares daily on her Instagram page; you can do so much!

"What are you doing for Palestine today?
Some suggestions.
l am going to:

  • Spend 30 minutes reposting informative content.
  • Create a post regarding the letter 'P.'
  • Translate and share a great post.
  • Follow social media accounts that advocate for the cause.
  • Buy ONLY from local businesses.
  • Plan (legally) a small fundraiser for family and friends
  • Volunteer in packing.
  • Join a protest (if legal).
  • Check up on at least two of your Palestinian friends.
  • Purchase products from a business that dedicates its profit/sales to the cause.
  • Read a book about the history of Palestine.
  • Talk to a non-Arab about the cause."

3. 💭 Wrap your mind around the fact that the passage below wasn't written yesterday but sheds light on the Nakba events of 1967. It is drawn from the book "Mornings in Jenin," a recommendation I made a few weeks back.

"There, on the rubble where his refugee’s shack had stood and where his family was buried alive, he stood on the threshold of an abyss and cried, his face deformed with agony and his voice charged with despair. Clutching his limp child in his arms, he arched his neck toward the heavens and released a hair-raising wail, a guttural surrender to his fate.”

(Thank you Readwise for helping me find this quote from something I read)

🙏 Don’t forget that we can donate to support Palestine 🇵🇸. Jordan friends please donate to Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization.

* Note: To the best of my ability, I am trying to share content by authors who have not disappointed me, and they are hard to come by! Please let me know if any author I share about showed disrespect to Palestine.

This is Sunday Spark issue #155!
