Good morning!

How are you? Prepping for Thanksgiving dinner yet? Or are you like Rocky? (That's one of my favorite lines in Rocky. “For you, it's Thanksgiving. For me, it's Thursday.”) This year I'm in charge of the mashed potatoes, a very important job that I feel qualified to handle. I'll let you know how it goes.

BOOK TALK

Sylvia Stryker and I are participating in a science fiction promo. If you're in the mood to get really far out of town for Thanksgiving (or escape the people you're expected to join for Thanksgiving :), then these book escapes might be just the thing for you.

A puzzle question for you: would you like me to give you puzzle options with fewer pieces? Hit reply and let me know! I am working on something special for newsletter subscribers in 2024, and I can add that to the list.

As long as I'm talking about special things for subscribers, I want to let you know that I am going to email you later this week. I think you're really going to want to open that email. But I understand that a whole host of companies are going to email you too, so I'm giving you a heads up. I'll even give it a snappy subject line like “THIS IS THE ONE YOU WANT TO OPEN!" (maybe not all caps, since that will end up in your spam folder.) So, this is your teaser notice that there's something special coming your way.

LIFE TALK
This is an interesting time of year for me. I generally spend my days writing in the morning and then doing writing-related, business stuff in the afternoon, but once the calendar turns the corner after November 15, things go sideways. Invitations come out of the woodwork. Holiday get-togethers happen. Parking lots fill and traffic slows down. I get a little on edge, because all of this interrupts my regularly scheduled programming.

It's a good thing for my world to get shaken up every once in a while. Every time I plan time off, convinced that my brain needs/deserves a break, I get a new idea that excites me wildly--except for the when-to-write-it dilemma. (So excited that just writing this prompted me to open Photoshop and work on a cover and forget that I was writing to you!)

If I'm being self-aware, I'd probably say that I am slightly inflexible when it comes to my schedule. I love what I do, so things that take me away from it rile up my feathers. But I also love an unexpected opportunity. These things are occasionally at war.

Every year, I come to a point where I have to recognize that this time of year is about something other than my usual schedule. It forces me to slow down and take a breather, recognize what I accomplished over the past year and see where I'd like to be this time next.

We all need a recharge every now and then. Here's hoping yours is everything you want!

xo,
Diane
