Cultivating Joy With Ahimsa
Hi First name / there

“So to be effective agents for social change we have to start with ourselves. First, we have to work on ourselves until we can be in the world without being automatically reactive.

As the stuff of the world around us comes pouring in on us, instead of reacting with fear and aversion or greed and grasping, the art is to introduce a moment of clear quiet awareness between the input (or perception) and the output (or response).

By adding this moment of awareness, we break the chain of reactivity that keeps us all so unconsciously bound.”

-Ram Dass, speaking at the Lama Foundation in 1983

This week, we explore the cultivation of joy through the lens of ahimsa, which inspires us to live in such a way that we cause no harm in thought, speech, or action to any living being, including ourselves

Ahimsa is a yogic practice (the first of the yamas) that offers “a way out” of suffering - if only it were that simple! This week, we explore practical ahimsa in our article on Cultivating Joy With Ahimsa by PW Founder Kirsten Ahern.

We also offer insight into our recipes - where they come from and how you can collaborate! - and offer a delicious and nutritious Sweet Potato Cacao Blondie (shared with us by one of our subscribers!) to add to your holiday baking list.

So, read on and reach out!  We'd love to hear from you.

Until next week!

Insider's Note
Readers are often curious about how we come up with our recipes. The truth is we usually turn to trusted sources in Ayurvedic and healthy cooking or offer our own inventions, but we also scour the internet and find inspiration from mainstream sources. We then adapt these to an Ayurvedic kitchen, usually by changing up an ingredient or two, adding appropriate spicing and exploring ways to make the recipe more digestible and nutritive.

This week's recipe is no exception! Inspired by one of our subscribers, we swapped out the extra sugars in the chocolate chips (sweet potatoes and maple syrup are already very sweet!) and added delicious unsweetened cacao, which is full of health benefits that are often missing in processed chocolates. (Of course, you can still add the chocolate chips to the top if you want!). We then added cinnamon to help enhance digestability! Sweet, nutritive and delectable - enjoy!
