Sports Business Award winners exemplify outstanding achievement and execution. Winners are recognized for innovation, creativity, organizational excellence, and leadership. Judges recognize “best in class” approaches and thought leadership, and industry influence in each category.
This Award Honors
Sports Business Journal’s 2024 Celebration of Service Award recognizes the power sports has on improving society and in building community. This award honors those organizations who have led the way in exemplifying how sport is a catalyst for social change, who have both demonstrated innovation and provided inspiration through the power of sports. They have helped to lift people up and have demonstrated the power of sports to be a vehicle for good.

To be considered for the 2024 COS Award, organizations must be a professional sports team community relations or foundation, an individual athlete or coach or an organization in North America.
  • Qualify as tax-exempt under Section 501c3 of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code
  • Be in good financial standing, based on further review of IRS filed 990s and/or audited financials
  • Operate within the parameters of all applicable laws and regulations where organization services are provided
  • Showcase outstanding institutional leadership and model for improving community health through sports
  • Demonstrate influential thought leadership Display proven measurable impact
  • Be able to accept the award on May 22, 2024, in New York City and participate in interviews and other media requests
  • Past honorees are not eligible

Entry Requirements
  1. Tell us how your organization is using the power of sport to improve society and build community.
  2. Leadership information
    • Provide a brief bio for the Executive Director of your organization.
    • Provide a list of board of directors.
  3. Describe how your organization serves as an innovative sports impact leader.
  4. Organizations should demonstrate a high level of creativity and originality.
  5. Provide specific measurable results that demonstrate your organization's impact and success.
  6. Describe the commitment your organization has made to diversity, equity and inclusion.
  7. Explain how your organization has been an influential thought leader and powerful voice to inspire others.
  8. Provide financial information
    • What is your organization’s annual operating budget? Please also include a very brief narrative explaining operating expenses.
    • Brief explanation of the long-term financial sustainability plan in place for your organization.
Award Benefits:
SBJ recognizes one organization annually. The award recipient will be named in March and in recognition of the honoree, SBJ will provide an awards package on behalf of their award-winning efforts including:
  • Recognition in SBJ in the special Sports Business Awards feature running in a 2024 May issue
  • Recognition in SBJ print ad, digital and email used to promote the COS recipient and the event
  • Opportunity for on-site interview(s) with news outlets during red carpet celebration prior to the ceremony
  • Recognition in-person at the 2024 Sports Business Awards to be held on May 22, 2024 in New York City
  • Table of eight (8) at Sports Business Awards and option to purchase additional passes at 15% discount.
  • Full list of award ceremony attendees with name/title/organization/address (as available)

In this talk, Ángel Barbas will share the progress of an ongoing research project that aims to study the contribution of alternative media to media literacy in a variety of cultural and geographical contexts. First, the results of a systematic literature review will be presented; research gaps and challenges identified during the process will be be addressed. In the third section of the talk, he will introduce preliminary results of fieldwork carried out on a sample of alternative media in Spain, the UK, Africa and the Middle East. Finally, future lines of research in the fields of communication and education will be outlined.

The WiST Fellowship Program delivers summer internship experiences for women and nonbinary undergraduate and graduate students eager to begin their careers in the sports tech industry. This program is an integral part of how we propel women into important roles and leadership positions in sports tech. Click to hear recent fellowship recipients talk about the impact of their WiST Fellowship experience.
WiST partners with sports tech industry-leading companies to offer 8 week summer internships combined with a curated professional development program. We define the sports tech industry broadly and encourage experiences that combine the themes of sports and technology innovation in creative ways. To increase the accessibility of these opportunities, WiST Fellows receive funding and reimbursement for travel expenses directly related to the work experience.
While the benefits created by these resume-building experiences are significant, the relationships developed among the Fellows cohort, Fellow alumni, and the WiST community at large provide an unmatched network and ongoing support for future growth.

February 7, 2024, marks the 38th annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day (NGWSD). This celebration inspires girls and women to play and be active, to realize their full power. The confidence, strength and character gained through sports participation are the very tools girls and women need to become strong leaders in sports and life. WSF ushers in 2024 excited to celebrate our 50th anniversary. We are proud of this tremendous milestone and appreciate all who have, and continue to, support us in our mission – and join us on this important day.
A vibrant movement we celebrate annually, NGWSD honors the achievements of girls and women in sports and continues to Lead Her Forward by acknowledging the power of sports to unlock her limitless potential.
The Women’s Sports Foundation applauds the vital role played by the individuals and organizations who join us in championing this effort: advocates seeking to protect Title IX and advance gender equity, athletes using their platform to inspire greatness, and coaches working daily to promote play.
We invite you to celebrate NGWSD in your community and to join the Women’s Sports Foundation as we Lead Her Forward in 2024.
