SFN: How did you learn to narrate audiobooks? |
|
JAF: I’ve been a SAG actor for years, so acting isn’t anything new, really. But each “type” of acting (screen, stage, audiobook, etc.) has its own nuances and particulars, and for learning those I used a combination of audiobook-specific coaching and listening to a TON of good audiobooks. |

SFN: What do you love to do on your days off? |
|
JAF: I’m currently working on developing a course for authors who would like to learn how to narrate their own books, and I’m really enjoying working on that. |
|
SFN: Audiobook listeners love bloopers! Do you have a favorite blooper you’ve saved or an author pickup you’ve gotten during the recording process that has stuck with you? |
|
JAF: Once an engineer from Brilliance studios put together a 10-ish minute file of my bloopers from the book Crime and Punishment. It was mostly a pretty epic stream of expletives. |
|
SFN: How long are your recording days? How do you keep yourself present/fresh/awake...? |
|
JAF: Since I share an audio booth with my talented and beautiful wife, Kelsey Navarro Foster, my recording days are only from 8am to 12pm, so “staying fresh” isn’t much of a problem :-) |
|
SFN: Where and when would you go if you could spend either a week in the past or a week in the future? |
|
JAF: Honestly, my answer to this is lame: my life with Kelsey and our children is pretty much perfect, and there’s no other time than now, with them, I’d rather be. |
|
SFN: AWWW! Anything else you'd like to share? The stranger or sillier the better!! |

JAF: If it’s “Strange” you want, I can share that I’ve recently been tapped to join the “Marvel Audio Universe” yet again as everyone’s favorite “Strange” Doctor 😏 |
