KitchenLab Interiors will turn 20 years old in 2024. It is hard to believe we are entering our third decade in business! We wanted to take a moment to thank all of you who have been our friends, clients and colleagues. This journey would not have been possible without you.

 

As we turn the corner, we have been hard at work on your projects and a full refresh of our KitchenLab Interiors brand. We have known for many years that as much as we love the name KitchenLab, it was perfect for, well, kitchens, and did not fully tell the story of who we are and the work we do. Our DNA is kitchen design, but nearly from the beginning, clients asked, “Do you do more than kitchens?”

 

Imparfait Design Studio – 
What's in a Name?
 

We decided back in 2018 to add “Interiors” to our name. That should solve the problem. Wrong. People still couldn’t get around the “Kitchen” in our name. What started as a re-brand turned into launching a new sister company…Imparfait Design Studio.

 

For us, “imparfait” represents character-driven design, spaces and objects with soul, layers and the patina of a life well lived. In grammatical terms, “imparfait” is the French imperfect tense used to describe an incomplete or ongoing action or state of being. Our homes are always in an evolving state of being, just like the people who live there.  Now we get to spend the next 20 years explaining what “imparfait” means…clearly we’re gluttons for punishment. 😂

What's Next? 

 

We also have our first brick-and-mortar studio in Lakeside, Michigan, and plan to host many parties during the summer months. Our KitchenLab team is still based in Chicago, while the Imparfait team is focused on both local and national projects. We are so fortunate to have an amazing team whose backgrounds in design are augmented by experience in hospitality, world travel, art and big-picture thinking. Their expertise allows us to continue to craft gorgeous kitchens for our KitchenLab clients and provide large-scale interior design, renovation and interior architecture for our Imparfait Design Studio clients.  Be sure to stay tuned on Instagram; we have lots of new projects coming online soon!
