Your Weekly Tuesday Tapestry

Hello First name / friend!

Tuesday Tapestry is our brand new weekly newsletter for Women's Personal Finance. It will come out most weeks, but not all - we deserve rest sometimes too. It's your weekly weave of all things life and money from us here at WPF.

Whether you're new to our community or have been with us on this journey, we're excited to share what we have going on, as well as other content we're watching and reading.

In our newsletter you'll catch threads of what we're thinking, what we're learning and what we're doing - we're grateful to have you contributing to this tapestry and following along. If you'd like to dive deeper into WPF, you can explore our content on our website and by connecting through our social platforms here:

Featured Fibers: This Week's Discussion

First, a quick note: watch your email tomorrow for a special giveaway for Angela's birthday!

This week, we want to share a very special story about the magic of Women's Personal Finance. We may be a money community first, but because we are loudly a welcome place for the nonbinary and trans community, WPF is also the place to celebrate their lives and their stories. This is one of those stories, and a story that wouldn't have happened without the WPF community. We are so grateful to everyone who supported this effort and those who make it clear that WPF is a place for all women and nonbinary folks.

Note from Amy, WPF community member, about the magic of the WPF Facebook community:

"I want to thank so many of you who sent me gently used formal wear when I posted asking for places to buy it cheaply so I could give it away at trans prom. Unfortunately, trans prom did not happen this year, so I made my own trans homecoming event and held it this past weekend.

Friends, because of you, we had ALL of these outfits available - over 150 total (I know because a few friends and I steamed them all, haha!). I raised money for the venue and fake flowers for corsages, put out an Amazon wishlist for gender-affirming undergarments to give away during it, had people volunteer to do hair and makeup, photography, and food, (the leftover amount of cash is going towards microgrants I'm creating for trans people in my community) and it was amazing.

This could not have happened without YOUR generosity! Thank you so much to everyone who sent me outfits (and some of you even wrote notes to the recipients, which I pinned onto the clothing so the new owner read it) and even if you didn't send anything, for sharing with your local community pages/buy nothing groups and just encouragement in general.

People were crying when they tried on clothing that affirmed their gender, got their makeup done and saw that their outside reflected how they felt inside. And it's because of YOU. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. I have clothes left over, so I'm rolling them over to next year's homecoming (because there will definitely be a next year for this event!)."

What we're reading and watching around the web

We're all about pretty much everything that Kara Perez shares on Bravely Go, and last week's Financial Lies That Keep You In Debt is a great one. Number one especially - talking about FICO scores - because that misunderstanding of how credit scores work is so imbedded in society. (PS. We just went over FICO scores in one of last week's PFAD (Personal Finance Acronym Daily) - check it out on Instagram or Facebook

What Regina's Listening To

Last week I shared an oddball in the musical museum. This week, it's all about classics. I listened to Paranoid from Black Sabbath on repeat for a good 4 hours while I got a bunch of work done around the house and in my office. A favorite off this album solidly remains “Hand of Doom.” One thing that seems to be missing in a lot of new music is the whole album concept (not that I can really say this with any authority because I don't listen to much new music). I really love how the tracks flow into one another. On a funny note, my husband thought I was listening to the same song over and over as he came in 4 times while planet caravan was on.
What Angela's Reading

My current nonfiction read is (finally) The 1619 Project. This one has been on my holds list for a loooong time, and it was worth the wait. As a history nerd (one of my minors in college was Latin American history), this book should without question be required reading during high school.

Note: this is a library book, which is part of what took me so long to finally get to read it (it had a veryyyyy long holds list). To combat the library holds conundrum, I regularly have 20-25 books on hold at one time so I always have something interesting ready to read.

Libby also allows you to “skip” yourself when a book comes up on hold and you aren't ready for it without landing yourself at the very back of the line. A very useful option for someone who always has a minimum of two to three books being read at one time.
