As the semester winds down, take a moment to reflect on this significant milestone. You are about to complete your first semester in grad school, which is no small feat. You are paving the way for McNair scholars following in your footsteps. You are paving the way for your future.
Here are a few reminders for you to consider:
- What you did this semester is enough.
- You're learning a whole new skill set that takes time.
- Your very presence in your classes, meetings with faculty, and friend circles inspires others.
- Be proud that you just set the scene for a beautiful new chapter in your life.
- Your brain might hurt right now, but it's worth it.
I can tell you that we are proud of you. I've been part of our McNair community for over twenty years now, and it still amazes me the opportunities our scholars go out and create for themselves in grad school.
You are creating your future right now.
This first semester is special because it marks the beginning of your grad experience. It's also a benchmark from which you will grow SO MUCH between now and when you complete your degree. Take time to acknowledge this moment and how far you've already come.
