New Testament 2023 Newsletter #52
Christmas
Good Tidings of Great Joy
(December 18-24)

A note from Emily & David
Merry Christmas!  We both love the story of Christmas so much.  It made us particularly happy that the study year was bookended with that story.  We started the year reading Luke 2, and now we end it doing the same.  With all that we have learned about Jesus this year, it makes celebrating His birth that much more meaningful!

This week, we take you through the story of Christmas verse by verse, giving us a chance to run with the shepherds, rejoice with the angels, and ponder with Mary.  We hope the story comes alive as we move through it together.  More than that, we hope you have the happiest Christmas!

With love,
David and Grace!

THE END OF THE NEW TESTAMENT MEANS IT IS TIME TO START ANTICIPATING THE BOOK OF MORMON.  WE HAVE PREPARED SEVERAL TOOLS FOR YOU TO HELP YOU DIG DEEP AND FALL IN LOVE WITH THE BOOK OF MORMON ALL OVER AGAIN.

And make sure you take a peek at our newest addition!  The Read it! Live it! Calendar.  Here’s why we love it…  We just wanted someone to make a schedule of the DAILY verses we needed to read if we want to finish the entire Book of Mormon by the end.  This calender does that!  Turn each page over each day to find a short list of verses that will keep you up to date on your daily reading.  BUT there is more!  We give you one verse to ponder and one thing you can DO to remember your reading for that day and make it part of your life.  READ IT!  LIVE IT!  It’s our new favorite addition to the family.

THE APP… THE BEST WAY TO STUDY WITH US IF YOU ARE OFF SOCIAL MEDIA

You will notice some old favorites there, like the daily’s, the newsletter, and the video all in one location.  But there are other fun things coming…including a THIS WEEK section, and also weekly transcripts.

This Week's Printable
We left you a blank Christmas themed study page for this week. Here are a few things you might do with it…

Teaching Tips for Kids
Have the kids draw out the Christmas story.  Have them draw each of the people who were there on that first Christmas.  Depending on their age, you might have them draw them in a way that shows how they responded to first meeting Jesus. (example: shepherds ran, angels sang, wise men gave gifts)

Teaching Tips for teens
Each year in our family we write a “Christmas letter” to Jesus.  It is a promise of a gift that we will give to Him in the coming year.  Sometimes we tuck it away in the Christmas decorations so when we get out the tree next year it gives us a chance to read it and consider how we did.

Teaching tips for individuals and couples
You might write a similar letter as we talked about in the Teens section.  It also might be a great chance to write down what the birth of Jesus means to you–especially after learning so much about His heart and character this year.

Don't Miss This in the New Testament
Come Follow Me 2023 Study Tools
Maybe you know this about us by now, but we are both visual, hands on learners.  Because of that, we are always trying to discover study tools that will help bring the scriptures to life in your home.  We will be using several different study tools this year, here is what we love most about each of them:

Videos:
For the New Testament we will be recording all new hour long videos, but this year they will be broken into ten minute segments in case you want to watch them for ten minutes every weekday, or you can watch them all at once.  These videos are totally free and can be found on YouTube or on our APP.

Journal:
The journals for the next four years have been totally redesigned with a theme in mind.  You will find questions to ponder daily that can be used for teaching or family discussions.  There are workbook pages based off of our most favorite part of each lesson that week.  You can also use these workbook pages for lessons or discussion.  There will also be a space for recording one name of Jesus Christ each week.

Devotional Book:
Perfect for a 5-10 minute lesson, these books can be used as a devotional every day.  This book is designed for personal study or family study.  We love to use ours around the dinner or breakfast table.

Word a Week Posters:
Perfect for a three minute study, these posters include one word and one verse a week for pondering.  Hang them somewhere in your home where they will be a daily reminder of Come, Follow Me.  This year we will be studying one name of Jesus Christ found in that week’s lesson.  By the end of the year we will have come up with 52 names.

Tip Ins:
These are small papers that can be glued right in your scriptures with tips and truths that will help to improve your study.

Stickers:
Use these colorful stickers in the margins of your Scriptures or in your Don’t Miss This Daily study journal.

Hopefully these tools will make your scripture study something you look forward to!
