Hello and welcome to the Autumn edition of transmissions from Seattle!
I must confess that the season slipped away from me and we've somehow nearly reached Winter. Things have been quite busy and change has been afoot. My now fiancé and I have recently traded Capitol Hill for the steely beaches of West Seattle. I broke my first bone! I've stayed busy shooting projects for Visit Seattle, Microsoft, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal, among others.
Some of my favorite things as of late…
Rediscovering this album by one of my favorite bands, The Nightgowns. The Nightgowns were a four piece band from Tacoma in the late 2000s. I got my start in photography shooting local live music and this band's shows were the stuff of legend. I love music because it reminds me of everything I used to be and still am.
This short, sweet and incredibly insightful interview between the late great Larry Fink and Dina Litovsky.
David Lynch's 2006 book Catching the Big Fish. If you can listen to the audio book, even better! It's read by Lynch himself and is full of great meditations on creativity and inspiration.
I'll sign off here, have a great rest of 2023 and see you in the new year!
NYT Fall Preview: Putting Women at the Center of Evolution
For NYT's 2023 Fall Preview, I photographed researcher and author Cat Bohannon at home in Seattle. Cat's new book, Eve, explores the ways the female body has driven 200 million years of evolution. I've loved listening to her book in the car while on long drives to and from shoots around the state, which is simultaneously academic and conversational.
Visit Seattle Literary Campaign
Did you know that Seattle is a UNESCO designated city of literature? I teamed up with Visit Seattle and Sparkloft Media earlier this fall to create these cozy library portraits of authors from Seattle including Gabriel Teodros, Christian Page, Kristen Millares-Young and more.
Getting Lost with Leslie Stoner
In early September, I drove out to Oak Harbor to photograph the amazing maze and encaustic artist Leslie Stoner for Luxe Magazine. I found myself utterly mesmerized as I watched her effortlessly wind her way around her canvases.
A Day With the Co-Creator of the World Famous Cinnabon
I'm not going to lie-- this shoot on Bainbridge Island in early October for Rotary Magazine was a dream shoot. The word lovely should be reserved for someone like Jerilyn. Just being around her reminded me of all the ways love goes into what you do in life. Along with her baking and recipe/flour testing work with Cairnspring Mills, Jerilyn is the founder of PeaceTrees Vietnam, an organization that works to clear land mines and other unexploded ordnance from the central provinces of the country following the Vietnam War (in which her brother was killed) and plant trees in their place.

Bulk Size Feelings About Costco's 40th Anniversary
Why This Teacher Still Teaches To Kill a Mockingbird
I met with retired English teacher Ann Freemon in Everett a few weeks ago for this Education Week story on banned books and why she still chooses to teach Harper Lee's novel, first published in 1960.
New Work for Virgin Atlantic's Vera Magazine in Leavenworth, WA
I teamed up with Ink Global for a super fun story on Leavenworth Reindeer Farm, a small family run business that celebrates Christmas year round. Should you find yourself on a Virgin flight over the holidays, you can snag a free copy or check out the digital issue here.
Death Cab for Cutie and The Postal Service's 20th Anniversary Tour
I had the opportunity to see Death Cab and The Postal Service's 20th anniversary tour not once, but TWICE in one week. Music is and always has been a fundamental component of my approach to work and inspiration. It was surreal to hear songs I used to listen to on my Walkman on the way to school given the arena treatment.
