USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service works to end hunger and improve food and nutrition security through a suite of 16 nutrition assistance programs, such as the school breakfast and lunch programs, WIC and SNAP.
The USDA recently announced that 35 states, all five U.S. territories and four tribes plan to be the first to launch the new, permanent summer grocery benefits program for children – known as Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer - in summer of 2024. Nearly 21 million children are expected to be recipients. This is a crucial step towards systemically addressing childhood hunger.
