The City of Denver has initiated a 5.280 miles long trail around the city to connect different regions. The trail will pass right through Auraria Campus and will increase accessibility of transportation by bicycle! However, construction has seen many delays and it's possible that the project will take the remainder of the decade to see completion.

Don't let this stop you from biking to work or school! Commuting by bicycle has several environmental benefits. These benefits include:
  • Lessening our dependency on fossil fuels.
  • No gas pollution.
  • No chemical pollution, such as antifreezes and other fluids.
  • Lessening the demand for roads. Roads contribute to water pollution via water run-off. When it rains or snows, chemicals on the roads are drained into water supply.
In the ASCP Climate Action Plan (CAP), we support a campus culture of alternative transportation. We have addressed barriers to alternative transportation by sponsoring the development of secured bicycle pavilions on campus. Additionally, Denver has increased bike lane mileage by 137 miles in the last several years. You can find a bike route map here

The 5280 Trail is an exciting development in our city! Keep doing your part while we wait for its completion.

Winter is here, Auraria! To help better insulate your home you can install honey-comb blinds which have been found to be 10–15% more effective than vinyl slat blinds. You can also cover your windows with blankets at night to trap in even more heat. Identify other spots where air can leak out such as plumbing, electrical wiring, and doors. By sealing them with weather stripping, caulk, or simply fabric will greatly improve heat retention.

Interested in implementing more sustainable practices into your office workspace? The ASCP Green Office Program is back! The ASCP’s Green Office program is a certification program for interdepartmental offices on the Auraria Campus to engage in campus-wide sustainability efforts. Efforts combine areas of environmental awareness, transportation, waste diversion, energy reduction, water conservation, green events, sustainable procurement, and campus engagement and outreach.

Why should your office join?
  • Initiate sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives into campus office environments.
  • Inspire behavior changes, reduce campus-wide waste and carbon emissions, engage in compost and recycling efforts, and reduce electricity usage.
