Dear First name / Hope for Haiti Family:

We're thrilled to report that the construction of the Baradères primary school that you generously helped support is now complete! The Hope for Haiti team and the local community held an inauguration ceremony in December to celebrate and officially open the school.

The primary school in Baradères was destroyed during the August 2021 earthquake, leaving the children in the community without safe access to education or the school lunch program that many families had come to rely on for meals.

"Ecole Congréganiste Jean Paul II des Baradères," the new school building, includes seven classrooms, an administrative space with a conference room, a sanitation block (hygienic restrooms), and a solar energy system that powers the entire school.

The new primary school, built in partnership with HomePlan and in collaboration with GDG Beton Construction, supports 580 students and 30 teachers. Hope for Haiti's Education Program Director, Jean Ronald Jocelyn, said of the new school:

“With its well-ventilated classrooms and nicely-designed porches, like a beautiful painting hung on a wall of greenery cascading down the hill, the school stands out as one of the nicest learning spaces in the Baradères commune. For the first time ever, the school has decent classrooms to host its students and offers a nice administrative space for parents, education officials, community members, and other visitors. Parents won’t have to worry about the safety of their children anymore. They now have a beautiful child-friendly environment to learn and blossom safely.”
