Kim here to welcome you to 2024! I hope that everyone had a peaceful holiday and is ready to tackle winter and what is certain to be an eventful year.

My newest collection, Sugar Cone, just hit shops and I’m thrilled that it has been well received. I designed this collection in the summer of 2022. I live in Central Texas, where the summers are brutal, and a gal’s mind turns to cold treats. After a few midcentury-leaning collections, I was wanting to try a more 1980s inspired collection, which I had explored in the past with Snap to Grid. I drew inspiration from the Museum of Ice Cream and my first job as a teenager slinging scoops at Baskin-Robbins. The blender print, called Ripple - in two neon shades and a white-on-white - is the most solidly 80s element of Sugar Cone.

I wanted to capture the childhood thrill of getting ice cream from the ice cream truck or the local ice cream parlor. That led to the toppings print - reminiscent of the toppings buffet at the frozen yogurt shop. This print with its bold circles is so fun and graphic when cut up. Its offshoot gummy bears print is certainly one of the most popular prints of this group! I loved drawing their dorky little faces and bellies.

Push Pops also figure prominently in my 80s childhood. I don’t know why orange sherbet was so much better all melty and flavored by the disintegrating cardboard tube, but it was! Gwenstella Made used Push Pops in Royal Blue for the most perfect dress ever.

So even if this collection was born in summer, I hope that the bright poppy pastels and neons provide a little warmth and cheer during these gray winter days. The Flicker quilt by Taralee Quiltery is the perfect wintry vehicle for these summery prints.
