MOOD: FANTASY 🌌

“This rappin' sh*t wasn't my fantasy, now I just cut on a beat and I damage it”
- Big Scarr, Fantasy

Peace, First name / movemaker! For this MajorMood Monday I'd like to introduce y'all to an artist that #setthemood for my entire 2023 summer, BIG SCARR. What made Scarr so unique is that he initially wasn't even sure that he wanted to become a rapper. What made him even more unique, is that he was PHENOMENAL at it. After releasing his first song in 2019, his fantasy turned into a reality.

Sadly, Scarr passed away in 2022, at the age of 22, due to an accidental overdose. It's crazy to think that just a year after posting these lyrics to his facebook (see below) – a talent such as himself would no longer be with us.

To be honest, writing today's newsletter started off with a bit of confusion. I was googling the lyrics to “fantasy” for accuracy and one of the most prominent lines in the song was throwing me off, completely.

I knew (or I thought I knew) that Scarr was saying “This rappin' sh*t wasn't my fantasy" on the hook – but every single website (even spotify lyrics) has it listed as "You right this sh*t wasn't my fantasy." I know, not that big of a deal – but I wasn't fully buying it. I listened to it back a few times and concluded that…

1. I could hear “rappin” clearly
2. It directly ties into the following line “now I just cut on the beat and I damage it”
3. It makes total sense with Scarrs' history of being unsure about hip-hop as a career!

LOW AND BEHOLD I typed my version into google and found a facebook post that Scarr made from 2021. (screenshot below)

CASE CLOSED.
Big Scarr was only 22 years old when he transitioned, BUT WOW - what a bright career he had ahead of him. I was bumpin' his entire Big Grim Reaper album ALL SUMMER ‘23 (I'm actually listening to it while I type this). PUTTING ON for southern hip-hop, Big Scarr was signed by Gucci Mane in 2021 –  a career that would have a tragically brief history.

“Long live the legend…my secret weapon, Big Scarr” - Gucci Mane

THANKS FOR LISTENING.
