“It’s not about being good at something. It’s about being good to yourself.”

Hope you all had a beautiful holiday season and are feeling excited about the possibilities that lay ahead in the new year.

You may currently be feeling like you need to get your entire life together before the month ends.

Please don’t.

Not only is that unrealistic and unproductive but unkind to yourself.

One of the best things you can do to start the year strong is to pick and choose what feels right to you, and let the rest go. 👋

Here are five ideas to help you embark on 2024 with gentleness and curiosity. Again, don’t feel pressured to do them all. Like my mantra for Weekend Lists, these are options, not obligations.

1. Take the month off.

Interpret this in a way that feels right to you. Prioritize rest. Give yourself an obligation-free pass, and say no to plans. Abstain from something like alcohol, spending, or social media. Let yourself off the hook from cleaning, or laundry, or cooking. Create space.

2. Make an Out/In list.
What would you like to invite into your life? What would you like to leave behind? It has been so fun to read these on social media. Don’t be afraid to get silly with your list.

3. Choose a word of the year.
What’s speaking to your heart in this season? Choose a single word or phrase that you can make your beacon of light and lead your year.
I’ll be sharing my 2024 Word of the Year in this Sunday’s Substack post. Click here to follow!

4. Create a digital or physical vision board.
My favorite creative ritual to start the new year! Choose words and images from magazines or Pinterest and cultivate a collage of images that make you feel happy. Check out my 2023 Vision Board recap here. I’ll be unveiling my 2024 board in Sunday’s Substack post along with my Word of the Year.

5. Draft a 24 in '24 list.
This idea comes from Gretchen Rubin and The Happier Podcast, and one that I’m excited to try for the first time this year. Cultivate a list of 24 things you’d like to do in 2024, and truly make it your own.
I’ll share my completed list on Substack on Sunday, January 21st.

I’m excited to journey through another creative year with you! Thanks for being an email subscriber and supporting my work. 🫶
