Book of Mormon
Week 04
January 22-28, 2024
1 Nephi 11-15

A note from Grace & David

Our favorite definition of condescension is God coming down to your story.  One word that describes how Jesus meets us where we are, as we are.  What do you learn about condescension from the angel in this part of the story?  When has the Savior met you where you are?  We’ll be talking about what we learn about inquiring of the Lord.  Two churches.  Two different books of scripture.  But, most important, one Savior, and how that applies to our stories. This week in Come, Follow Me we will be studying 1 Nephi 11-15 in the Book of Mormon.

Here are the segments you can look forward to:

This week we are studying condescension and what that word actually means.

Teaching Tips for Kids
Have your kids tell you the story of Christ’s birth.  Then have them tell you their favorite story of Christ healing someone.  Last, have them tell you what they love most about Christ’s Easter story.  This is condescension.  Let them draw pictures of each event.

Teaching Tips for teens
It’s OK if you don’t understand everything.  Nephi didn’t.  One thing that we learn from this chapter is that Nephi came to understand by actually looking for what Jesus did.  He SAW Him in the stable.  He SAW Him ministering and healing and teaching the people.  He SAW the crucifixion.  Where do you see Jesus?  What do you learn from this chapter that might help you see Him better?

Teaching tips for individuals and couples
As you read through chapter 11, write down the picture Nephi sees.  Try to visualize it.  As you do, make notes in each column of what you learn from “looking”.  Why do you think the angel used that word so many times in chapter 11?
