Hey Cöllective!
You know what theme I've been seeing a lot lately?! Menopause!
Yup, the end of the menstrual cycle. Online, off-line, Black women, actresses, journalists, and even politicians have menopause on their mind.
It reminded me of a time when a few women who were experiencing menopause inspired me to get my shit together regarding my health. One woman was overwhelmed after being thwarted into perimenopause symptoms due to numerous fibroids, that they decided to have a hysterectomy at 38 years old. I was having the toughest battle with fibroid symptoms myself. My fertility goals made me persevere. I also had hope from seeing other Black women give birth to healthy babies (after their fibroid surgery). Motherhood is a goal of mine, although I'm not super married to how it comes. However, hearing women speak on menopause, or their decision to get a hysterectomy, or remove an ovary.. had me in my feels. It made me take my health a little more seriously. I imagined how it may feel if I ran out of options. I decided to think about my future differently. What's ahead for my body? What's coming? I learn by listening. Listening to those on Earth ahead of me and those in the sky that have paved my way. I hope all of this attention on menopause doesn't fizzle out, yet it advances womb health. Whatever your experience is, I hope you feel empowered to share. You never know who you may inspire.
