about

The Starglow block is inspired by warm nights spent gazing at and wishing on stars. The design creates a twinkling constellation with chains and flying geese radiating outward from a central star. Starglow features a variation of the traditional Ohio Star, a block with deep history tied to anti-slavery fighters and their legacy in the American Civil War. You can learn more about the historical significance of the Ohio Star block in this article from Suzy Quilts.

block tips

Starglow features 4-at-a-time flying geese, a diamond-in-a-square, and strip piecing. It’s written for a confident or advanced beginner and above and is a great opportunity to practice working with smaller scale pieces and perfecting your ¼” seam. I recommend starching your fabrics ahead of time when making this block to help keep your piecing precise.
