it's still a new year!

How was your 2023? How is 2024 starting out? 
2023 was honestly a great year with so many milestones, but it was also an emotional year. 
 
This year, I personally:
  • Went on 3 cruises
  • Trip to Mexico (for business & pleasure)
  • Celebrated all of my children’s birthday milestone (10, 16 & 18) with parties
  • Marriage turned 20!
  • Oldest son graduated high school and entered college
  • Honored by my Alma mater & inducted into the 50 Under 50 Class VII
  • I published my third book
  • Got promoted on my job
  • Purchased two more investment properties (1 rental, 1 fix & flip)
The emotional part was something I dealt with in quiet. My 2023 was my son's senior year and who knew how stressful it could be. You are trying to get your child out of school and into school. You're dealing with all of the logistics and their ATTITUDE! Because I trying to make sure he had all of the things, I let things I was doing for myself GO. I even lost my whole website (by accident) I honestly believe I went into a mini-depression for a minute.

  1. 50 Under 50 Award - One of my highlights from 2023 is receiving the 50 Under 50 Award from Alabama State University from my work after college and in the community.
  2. I published my third book, My Yearbook of Blessings. It's on Amazon and I am so grateful at the response. Has God ever answered a specific prayer? 2023 HE answered some big prayers and I wanted a way to remember them, go back and read them to remind me of His goodness when I go through a valley experience, strengthen my relationship, and always know he’s right there. Always.

What can you expect from me in 2024

2024 is literally a new year for me. My birthday was Jan. 2nd (I'm now closer to 50 than 40!!), I started a new position at my firm. I was in my previous position for 5 years. 
 
 I had applied for other positions over the last 3 years (within the firm) and was rejected 17 times. Just when I started to think maybe it's time do look outward and leave, I prayed and told God what I wanted in a new position plus I wanted him to bring it to me. A few weeks later, my manager sent only me a position that he thought I would be perfect for. I found out later after I was offered it, they had never even posted the position.  
 
So, I'm over the moon to be doing something NEW and something I can do and still grow in. (Visual Analytics & Creative)
 
With this newsletter, I plan to ONLY send you emails TWICE a Month (unless it's a holiday or Black Friday). I will have an update of what's going on with me, the community and of course MY FAVORITES! The favorites will have affiliate links (meaning if you purchase something, I could make a coin!)

Have you seen American Fiction?
AMERICAN FICTION is Cord Jefferson's hilarious directorial debut, which confronts our culture's obsession with reducing people to outrageous stereotypes.
 
My husband and I saw this movie and I immediately wanted to see it again because of all the messages within the movie. I wanted to sit with a few things. I love the way the story is told and written. It shows that even as black people are not a monolith, they are still seen as downtrodden in the eyes of the mainstream society which sadly continues to this day. The supporting cast including Issa Rae, Tracee Ellis Ross, Sterling K. Brown, Erika Alexander and Leslie Uggams among others, help bring life into the film.  Have you seen it? Your thoughts?
