We are talking about the Spirit this week, how it leads us from time to time.  What it looks like to minimize or maximize trials.  We’re learning how we can look back at scripture stories to find answers for our own lives.  How is the Lord instructing you right now?   What does it mean to liken all scripture to yourself?  This week in Come, Follow Me we will be studying 1 Nephi 16-22 in the Book of Mormon.

This week we are studying how past scripture can assist with our current story.

Talk to your kids about wilderness experiences.  What would it be like to pack up everything and live in the desert?  For a long time?  How would you know what to do?  Could you learn from someone who had lived like that before?  Why would it have helped Nephi to look back at what Moses did?

Ask your teens to write down lessons that Nephi and his family had that would compare to experiences Moses had.  What could Nephi learn from the experience of Moses that would help him?  Do you think the stories of Moses strengthened his courage?  His faith?  Gave him ideas?  Why?

Take some time to compare Nephi’s wilderness with Moses’ wilderness.  What feels similar?  What are some lessons that Nephi could learn from and hold onto?  Now think about your own wilderness places.  What can you learn from Moses and from Nephi that might strengthen you?
