Seventeen years ago, we knew we had outgrown our workshop and started the hunt for a larger shop, something which had always been part of our plan. We were so very fortunate to come across a property that was up for sale and was eight minutes away from our location.

 

The 100 foot by 30 foot barn, built in 1901, would provide us with a wonderful space for our new shop and also allow us to create a retail space in the old milking parlour. Not an easy conversion, but we had a vision, some great help, and spent the Spring/Summer renovating the barn.

 

At the same time we became a member of the Atlantic Economusée network of international artisans. This partnership helped guide our retail space renovation so that visitors are able to read history panels, shaker box process panels, and allow for viewing into the workshop area. We welcome a chance to walk visitors through the workshop to view the the work in progress, educate them on our vision and mission, and often allow them to see Brent in the process of bending the shaker oval boxes.

The space enables us to host special events such as Christmas in the Barn, Crafters in The Barnyard, and to host visiting artists and offer workshops.

 

The Barn In Bloomfield is not just the workshop location but also our storefront. We have been welcoming visitors from near and far for 17 years. We hope that each visitor feels welcome and can experience the craftsmanship that happens here each and every day. And maybe, take home a piece of the craftsmanship to treasure in their home or to gift to a loved one.
