THE PANDEMIC GAVE US A “SILVER LINING”
During Covid's “shelter in place” mandates, employers and executive support professionals got creative with new methods and mindsets to effectively connect, communicate, and still work remotely. Out of these necessities, we began to see that virtual work could actually be more productive than before.
We also experienced the recapturing of time, with surprising clarity about priorities relative to a true work/life balance. No longer were we frenetically speeding through our work weeks, feeling there were never enough hours in the day! Gone were the long commutes. There was suddenly time with family. We took yoga classes online, walked our dog, and remembered (learned?!) how to cook. (Sourdough starters, anyone?)
We slowly realized that we were living in an enhanced definition of “right work.”
As Covid restrictions lifted, scores of executive support professionals were reluctant to return to the office five days a week. Interestingly enough, many managers agreed there was no reason to commute hours every day to sit in front of the same computer they had at home. The dedicated remote/hybrid workplace emerged, and now it is the new norm in many sectors.
