We’re starting 2024 by sweating the small stuff. It’s unintuitive but true: small fixes and a dedication to the details can make a bigger impact than huge bets or master plans.

With that said, we did manage to squeeze in some big stuff too.

Here’s what’s new, what’s fixed, and what’s next.

What's new
Smart search, v1

Smart search is semantic search, and semantic search is like when you ask your mom for a cookie but there's no cookies, so she brings you a biscuit and some coffee because she knows what you really wanted was a delicious breakfast.

In Sublime, that means you can now ask like you would a friend, and we'll know what you mean. Try it out by searching for something and turning on Smart results.

My favorite part is describing an article or quote I know is in my library but I can’t remember the exact words for, and then finding exactly what I was looking for. Here’s me doing that.

Import from Readwise

You can now import your highlights from Readwise with auto-sync.

Coupled with smart search, this also means you can run a smart search on your Readwise highlights. And like anything else on Sublime, you can click into any highlight and discover related ideas from other people’s libraries – I can spend hours watching the related results recreationally.

Try it out and let us know how it feels.

What's fixed
  • Half of our time this month was spent optimizing speed performance. Everything should feel significantly faster now.

  • We had some issues with Kindle imports for big libraries. Those are fixed now. If you tried syncing your Kindle and weren’t able to, please try again.

  • Clicking “See more” on a card expands the full text directly in the feed instead of taking you to a new page.

What's next
  • Yanis and Andrew are slowly polishing all corners of the product. The updates will gradually trickle in over the next few months – you may not notice all of them, but you’ll feel them.

  • Israel is working on improving Smart Search and enabling advanced collaboration. Soon, you’ll be able to collaborate on collections with your friends, team, and beyond.

  • Andres is working on Remember – our take on helping you revisit what's in your library. We’ll have more to share on this next month.

  • Gabriel is working on a landing page refresh that better reflects who we are and outlines our membership/pricing model. Soon, our doors will officially open.

  • Alex welcomed his second baby, a girl!!!

As for me, I’m spending a lot of time with people – talking to our early believers, collaborating on product stuff with Gabriel and Yanis, brainstorming ideas with Alex, making sure everyone has the context and support to thrive.

I also have a backlog of things I plan to write about in the coming months. Not because I love writing, but because I love having a problem I believe I might someday write my way out of

That’s that, friends.

I’d use Sublime even if I was the only one here, but building for you and with you is way more fun and fulfilling. Thank you, as always, for your support. My inbox is always open for questions, comments, feedback, wishes, etc.
