Last week was the school holidays in Turkey, and the holiday continues this week. This means it is time to break out of the daily routines and switch to holiday rituals. I have to admit it feels nice not to wake up at the same hour every morning and to get the chance to spend more time with my son. I am working very limited hours, except that I am on call for births.
The first baby of the year has already arrived, and we are now expecting the second one. Welcome, baby boy! This was one of the births where I felt the importance of doula support for the father the most because fathers who are willing to be active and present in the experience sometimes get lost about how to help. With doula support, the mother, the father, and the baby become the perfect team. Witnessing the power of a laboring woman is always amazing, and I feel really blessed to be accepted in this special place
Routines and Rituals
This is going to be my topic for 2024. I love talking and teaching about routines and rituals. They have always been a part of my life and my education program. However, soon I will be teaching and sharing more about them because routines and rituals:
Make pregnancy a calmer experience.
Make the postpartum period smoother.
Help babies feel safer.
Make us feel safe, comforted, and content with our lives.
Keep us on track.
We all need some routines and rituals in our daily lives, even if we only have one or two of them. Due to our busy lives, sometimes it is easy to compromise on a routine or something we enjoy very much. However, there are ways to integrate them into our daily lives more easily. There are tiny steps to start, and many of them are simple. For example, there is a burning candle and a glass of mineral water with a piece of lime on the table while I am writing my newsletter at this moment. This simple act enhances my enjoyment of this moment. It is my ritual to light a candle when I am writing and to have a beverage with me.
Would you like to share a simple routine or ritual of yours, First name / friend? Looking forward to hear it.
What am I reading this month?
I am reading a novel, the story of a very interesting fictional woman, who is a chemicist in 1950s USA and became a tv star, giving cooking recipes jsut like making an experiment. ‘’Lessons in Chemistry‘’ So far I really did enjoy reading this book. It is a recommendation from a dear German doula friend.
THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME INTO YOUR JOURNEy
