| | SFN: What gave you the idea to add writing books to your busy life and career? |
| | LKC: This is a loaded question. I didn't choose to publish - I never imagined anything I wrote was something that could be published. I've written since I was a child. Turbulence (now the Turbulence Series of Entanglement and Tranquility) was first written when I was in college. It's changed a lot since then. But, one day, a copy of my manuscript was stolen, so I copyrighted and published in order to protect them. But writing has always been a part of me. |
| | SFN: What’s your most under-appreciated novel? |
| | LKC: Holding on to Day. Writing this story saved my life in a literal sense, and Mac and Cassidy are more real to me than actual people. |
| | SFN: As a reader, do you have a trick to pull yourself out of a book slump? |
| | LKC: The only book slump I've had, I was able to get out of because I picked up a friend's book. It was written in 3rd person, which is how I write, so my brain clicked in immediately. The author is Cathryn Carter and I love her sports romance books. |
| | SFN: What's your favorite part of the writing process? |
| | LKC: I don't plot, so discovering where the characters take me is as fascinating to me as others. I will have an idea of what's going to happen, and they veer all the time. I love researching, as well. For instance, with Holding on to Day (yes, it's on audio), I was lucky enough to have access to military medical personnel and I learned so much about PTSD and polytrauma. I am from a military family, but the medical and psychological research was devastating. |
