A Note from Julie, the Greenhouse Curator:

Hi, First name / friend! I received a cup of goodies from one of my lovely court reporter clients yesterday, but it took longer than usual to find its way to me. Here's why:

My client intended for me to receive the gift by Christmas, but she sent it to my old address by mistake. We were worried the people who moved in might keep it, but thankfully, the new tenants returned it to my client. I finally received it yesterday, and my favorite part is the note that she included. What a sweet reminder that a proofreader's hard work is appreciated. 🥰

You probably already know that hostile refers to a harmful and unfriendly attitude or environment, but did you know that a hostel is a budget accommodation for travelers (often with shared facilities)?💡

The Proofreader Greenhouse asked:
  • What type of content do you proofread or edit? Court transcripts
  • Did you complete a training course for proofreaders, or are you self-taught? Prior to transcript proofreading, I was self-taught. I took the Proofreading Business Coach's transcript proofreading course to prepare for this type of proofreading.
  • What's your favorite thing about your proofreading or editing business? It's so rewarding to get paid to do what I love and am good at. I've wanted to make a career out of this since college, and now I own my own business! It's truly a dream come true.
  • What causes you the most frustration in your business? The fluctuation of work that comes with freelancing can be frustrating. Some days I almost can't keep up with work, and other days I'm twiddling my thumbs. I still deal with the doubt of "Am I cut out for this?" on at least a monthly basis.
  • What tips would you like to share with other proofreaders and editors? When you're feeling restless, recognize what's preventing you from staying focused and invest in options that work. I realized recently that my standing desk and walking pad help me deal with restlessness while working; I can be productive and get my steps in rather than sitting and feeling distracted every 30 seconds.

Would you like your proofreading or editing business to be featured in a future issue of The Leaflet?

PLANT OF THE WEEK:

Cream Splash Philodendron

This plant makes me smile.

He's a variety of the Brasil Philodendron (one of my favorite plants). If you look carefully, you can spot the cream color on the leaves.

So pretty!

Let's keep growing together!
