A Note from Julie, the Greenhouse Curator:

Happy February, First name / friend! At long last, Podia (the platform that hosts The Proofreader Greenhouse) has added a blog function to its sites! 🄳

Podia's blog function is still in beta testing, but I've had fun experimenting with it this week. I named the blog The Watering Can because as water nourishes plants, the TPG blog is designed to nourish and inspire your mind. You'll find a refreshing flow of ideas and knowledge to help your proofreading and editing skills grow.

I hope you enjoy it! Please note that readers aren't able to comment on the posts yet, but that functionality will be added when Podia rolls out blogging to all users soon. Click the image below to visit.

As I mentioned in last week's Leaflet, The Proofreader Greenhouse will be offering Productivity P.O.D. (Partners on Demand) Sessions for proofreaders and editors to come together virtually at a designated time to work on their own tasks.

Based on the survey responses, it looks like Tuesday and Thursday evenings (EST) will be the best time for most people. Watch your email for more details coming soon!

If you haven't submitted your availability for the P.O.D. sessions yet, click the button below to let me know what times you can attend.

The Proofreader Greenhouse asked:
  • What type of content do you proofread or edit? Predominantly non-fiction. I also do fiction work occasionally. I’m about to work with a repeat client on their second book in a fantasy series.
  • Did you complete a training course for proofreaders, or are you self-taught? I've completed proofreading and editing training with the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP).
  • What's your favorite thing about your proofreading or editing business? I find editing and proofreading a really satisfying job. I also love to see the end results of my work and the smile on my clients’ faces!
  • What causes you the most frustration in your business? Clients who request ā€œsmallā€ tasks at the last minute but then continually change the goalposts.
  • What tips would you like to share with other proofreaders and editors? I’m a big fan of Trello. I use it for lots of things, including planning social media content. In terms of clients, word of mouth is the biggest thing for me: If you do a good job for one client, they’re likely to recommend you to someone else and that’s such a good feeling!

Would you like your proofreading or editing business to be featured in a future issue of The Leaflet?

PLANT OF THE WEEK:

Lemon Lime/Neon Philodendron

I just love the colorful leaves on this plant!

He loves indirect light, but his leaves will burn if he gets direct sun.

Avoid overwatering this guy. He won't like it.

Let's keep growing together!
