SFN: Do you remember your first? (audiobook, that is!)
SR: Yes! It was a group of four shifter romance novellas. I'm shocked when I see it still has good reviews on Audible because I had no idea what I was doing then. But hey, everyone starts somewhere!
SFN: What's your pre-recording ritual?
SR: I prep every book I record - read it, take notes on characters, voices, plot points etc. The night before I record I always drink tea with honey and then each morning before going into the booth I do a pretty extensive vocal warmup.
SFN: What is your least favorite word to pronounce in a narration? What is your favorite word to roll around in your mouth?
SR: I don't know if it's my least favorite but I just finished a book where I said the word "hierarchical" a lot and I said it wrong every. single. time. I don't know if I have a favorite but there is just certain writing I've performed that just feels so natural like the author knew it would be spoken at some point and that is the best to perform.
SFN: Do you recall a specific book you connected with viscerally as a young reader or as an adult?
SR: The first one was A Perfect Day for Bananafish from J.D. Salinger's Nine Stories. I always hated books that were assigned to me when I was younger and that's the first one I remember finding myself reading for pleasure.
SFN: What or who inspires you as an artist?
SR: I like to know as little as possible about something before I watch/read/listen to it. I love to be surprised, learn new things. So, what inspires me most is the opportunity to provide that for other people.
SFN: What do you love to do on your days off?
SR: Because I spend so much time alone in a booth I spend as much time outside of that as I can with friends and family.
